Temp fluctuations 200 1989

Hello, this is my problem. The needle creeps right up to, not into, the red zone, then backs down. Then, sometimes while on the same drive, back up. And down.

This wagon had a busted thermostat when I bought it. When a new one didn't smooth out the temp reading, I figured that's b/c the $12 thermo was too cheap, so just put in a pricier one. Same deal. I can't think of anything else that would drive up the reading, then drop, and fluctuate so much. That's why I'm here. Many thanks.
