Another story to go along with this is that my cousin bought a 66 1800 with 23K. The car had been sitting 25 years and to get it running they put a new fuel pump in. Later on when he has the car he developed this exact problem. Long story short the info he got was that the pumps available today pump with too much PSI. His solution was to install this vintage Malpassi fuel filter contraption he got off Ebay. It seems to have done the trick cause he never had the problem again.
Its just an experience I could pass on about that apparently common problem.
