30mph 200 1988

I just bought a 1988 240dl for my daughter a couple of months ago. It was made the same year she was born, and she said it reminded her of the movie "Riding in cars with boys". Anyway... Problem today..
The car won't excellerate past 30 mph. Sounds like it's not getting gas past a certain point. Accelerates slowly. idles fine, gage doesn't say it's overheating, started happening Friday. My neighbor changed the inline fuel filter..didn't help. Any suggestions?
