possible od problem? 200 1992

I have a 1992 volvo 240, I was driving home the other night and the car was in the 4th overdrive gear, and all of a sudden i felt it come out and heard a change in the engine noise.

The car still shifts, just stops at third. Harnessing all of my car knowledge i decided to start with the fuses, I checked, and all were intact. Next I went to google. I think I have narrowed it down to being the solenoid, or relay. A small issue I am having, is that I can't locate the relay. When i take out the glove box I clearly see all my radio wiring, and some other wiring wrapped up in thick black tape, but no orange or white box that would be the relay.

I also just had the kickdown cable replaced not too long ago, within the last 2 months. What I need help with is 1) locating the relay, where could it be hiding? 2) any second thoughts on diagnosis? 3) if it is the solenoid, how hard is it to replace? should i leave it to the professionals?

Thanks in advance.
