67 wagon tailgate 120-130

It's so that you can drive with the tailgate down and still have the numberplate visable. I've done it a few times when I've had to carry big loads. It pays to run with your windows down too so that you dont fade with the fumes from the exhaust. The last time I had the tailgate to bits I noticed that the curved stay has a little notch in it that is supposed to click in to hold it hinged either way.

Something near the tailgate - does anyone know what the little hole is on the left hand side beneath the window on a wagon? Is it to hold up the fuel tank breather pipe? I have seen a breather pipe in exploded parts views but my car doesn't have one.
