Wiring issue (repost)

I didn't get any replies and I'm in a bit of a pickle (need the car for work) so I'm reposting my message. If this is bad form in this forum, let me know. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi all,
I just replaced the wiring harness on my 1985 dl nonturbo 230f. To get the old hard, crusty harness out I had to cut it in places. Unfortunately I accidently cut the wires (the blue one and the white one) coming from the coil. I was going to splice them together but I noticed that the white wire is acually a wire inside of a wire, almost like there is shielding. What are my options? The Bentley manual hasn't been any help to me on this one. I can't even figure out where the white wire goes or what it does. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Ed
