stalling puzzle 200 1986

Hi,
Thanks for all the help so far...I recently replaced my main engine harness and all seemed to be going well, but now I have an odd stalling problem. I've checked and re-checked all the connections.

Here is what happens: The car starts and idles great. But it stalls in different ways 1) sudden pinging, increases rpm at idle then stalls 2) driving down the road just fine, suddenly stalls (lights stay on, engine just quits).

I've disconnected the AMM after it stalls and it still won't start. I've checked the timing at idle and it is fine.

BUT, if I disconnect/reconnect the battery it will start right up every time. Has anyone run into this? Is something getting "reset" when the battery gets disconnected? I'm thinking of replacing the AMM just to see, but thought I'd ask first. I have very little understanding of electronics, but I'm wondering if a bad AMM could send wacky signals to the ECU causing the diffeent kinds of stalling? Just a guess really...Thanks.
