Thank you for the detailed message you information was bang on. The wiring set up is in fact the later or post change. It took some time but I eventually traced the wire for resistance to the fuel pump relay - it wasn't clicking on so I swapped it and the car fired up. Thanks again for your help - I had no idea the circuit changed from the earlier cars.
