Speedometer issues 200

I pulled my cluster to do some odo rehab and I decided to put on custom faces on the gauges (http://bartonharness.com/WhiteFaceGauges.html). I still can't get the odo to work so I decided to nix that idea but the custom faces look great. After I put everything together (not yet installed in the car) I noticed the speedo needle doesn't go back to zero. I think I buggered the speedo somewhere along the line, but can't figure out how to fix it. I'd rather ask now and fix before I even put in the car and not have to uninstall it again and again.

Also the nut holding the speedo cable broke but I have another one off a different cluster I don't plan to use. I can't figure out how to take it off so I can put it on the cluster going in the car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, this is for a '81 Volvo 242 with the 980 speedo and 120 mph speedo.
