Remember the spring return function of the ignition is not in the lock assembly, but in the switch mounted to the back of the ignition lock.

There are two slotted screws holding the switch to the back of the lock. If you take the time to separate the two you can figure out which piece is getting stiff. The switches sometimes wear out and need to be replaced. $40 or so from the dealer. The harness just plugs onto the back of the ignition switch.]
