Coolant temp sensor 200 1989

I got the 1-2-3 error code (CTS), and it has been reset and tripped several times. I stuck my face down in the engine compartment and believe I found it's location, but I do not see any wires connecting to it. Is the wiring on the inside or something, or do I have a wiring problem more than a sensor problem? Also would a sensor for a '93 replace the one in my '89? Any ideas of places that keep these in stock, seems like a special order part everywhere I have called.
