Help me figure out if there is a problem in the wiring going to the pre-pump? 200 1990

I wanted to check the wiring before I put the sender unit back in. I checked continuity between the black wire at the plug in the trunk and the positive terminal at the pre-pump. There is no continuity. Shouldn't there be? The solder joint inside the sender unit looks good. Could I remove the plastic part on top of the sender unit and check for an open there or must that remain sealed?
