Having water pump/timing belt/flush & fill done, any other things that can/should be done? 900

'93 945T

I'll be paying an independent import shop $250 to change the water pump, timing belt, and a radiator flush & fill. Is there anything else I should have them look at? I’ll probably have them change some other belts, but any other preventive maintenance stuff that can be done relatively cheaply?

Even after reading the FAQ, I just don't feel comfortable on changing the water pump / timing belt by myself. For what it's worth, I had also stopped by the dealer to get a quote on the timing belt / water pump / flush and fill (with my providing the timing belt). The guy there spent about ten minutes working out the quote and came back with $450. He actually said that this would be about four hours of labor.

From the FAQ: "Volvo has used virtually the same water pump on all four cylinder engines, from the B18B until the B230F. Volvo rates this job at 1.6 hours of labour and the cost of a new factory water pump is about $125 (Canadian)."

So they would be spending 2.4 hours on flushing my radiator? Doesn't the timing belt have to come off for the water pump, so there shouldn't be extra time (or minimal extra time) for the timing belt?

This is why I don’t like dealers in general, they'll lie. This is the same place that has a sign up that says that labor will be calculated by using a combination of the book rate and the actual time it took which sounds to me like if they do it quicker than the book rate they'll use the book rate. If it takes them longer than the book rate they'll charge actual time. Nice.
