engine won't start 700 1989

Hi,
I have an 1989 740 turbo,I just bought this car a few months ago and lately it has not been starting,now it won't start at all.I looked the faq section on the brickboard and read about the part of tachometer not jumping when you crank the engine,mine does not jump when cranking,it jumps once when you turn on the key but that is all.The faq says it may be my distributer sensor that has gone bad or the power stage unit,which more common to fail on these turbo cars?Is there any other checks I can make?
