In tank pump /Fuelgauge problems 1982 240 Gl 200 1982

I removed my in tank fuelpump and replaced the short piece of hose at the in tankpump which was totally rotten.
Now I would like to test the in tank pump outside the tank.I did the following already without success;
I measured voltage at the connector outside the tank which is fine but if I measure voltage at the pump plus and minus terminals with the pump connected I do not get any voltage and couldn't get the pump to run outside the tank,also not when connecting the plus and minus terminals of the pump directly to the battery connections?Any advise how to test/connext the in tank fuelpump.

Many thanks.

Marcel
