Code 144 EZ UPDATE, Sorry 200

The 1989 244 auto stopped running for no reason. Driving down the road and it quit. Pulled over after coasting 1/2 mile and restated the engine and drove home. This is my daughter's car and was taking it home to diagnois the exact problem that happened to me. After restarting there was a check engine code. It would not give any flashes on trying to read a code from the #2 slot so I tried the #6 slot and got the EZ ignition code of 144. I can still not get any flashes from slot #2 as you should normally. Nothing, not even a red flash of any kind.. Is the ECU gone? If so then how is it running after quiting?
