Your car has an OBD I system and requires no special scanner to retrieve the fault codes. See the 700/900 FAQ for information, including a table of code descriptions. A bad TPS "should" record a fault code....

You might want to try cleaning out the idle control valve real good. It will definately affect the idle, but I doubt it will help the highway speed acceleration. Reading back the fault codes may offer a clue to something else that's wrong.

If your car has the Rex ignition with the big wierd coil mounted on the LH strut tower, take the coil apart and clean all the mating surfaces and internal connections, including the surface that mates to the car chassis.

BTW - If your car has the Regina fuel system, there is no AMM, but in the same location is an intake air temperature sensor.
