A tale of two Volvos 200

Okay, here's the deal. About 2 and a half weeks ago I went to central Colorado to meet my brother for an Elk/Bear hunting trip. While I was driving through a small mountain town, I decided to make a left turn into a parking lot on a 2-lane road. Suddenly, out of nowhere (you know where this is going, don't you?) a guy tries to pass me on the left (crossing the double-yellow line) as I'm making my turn and Wham-o, Ka-blam, and all of those other goofy sound effects you used to hear on the Batman show happened all at once. This guy bounced off of the left front corner of my '84 245 and went on sailing about 100 yards on up off of the shoulder and into the ditch. Thank God that no one was hurt. No one except for his car and what's more important my '84. It ripped the front almost completely off(the left front bumper strut was broken in two) and buckled both fenders as well as the hood. The A/C condenser and radiator was pushed into the fan. So after 2 weeks of driving a rental and waiting for the Colorado State to hire a delivery snail to get me a copy of the accident report so I can file a claim with the other guys insurance, I couldn't stand it any longer and I went out yesterday and bought an '83 245GL for $500. It's got a list of things I have to fix, nothing serious though. It has an automatic trans. though and I'm used to my other 2 245's that are/were 4-speeds. My question is that when I was driving this car home today I couldn't get the O/D to engage at first and so I tried the old beat the dash trick and the O/D engaged so I'm assuming the relays gone bad. Can I resolder the solder joints just like on tghe man. trans. O/D relays and fix this problem or am I better off just replacing the relay? Also, is there a filter in this trans. as I'm planning on replacing the fluid as well as all of the fluids in the car? I guess that's all the questions for now. I may ahve more later. Thanks in Advance.
