Fuel Economy Gauge - Vacuum Hose Connection 200 1986

Where should the vaccum hose from the "Fuel Economy Gauge" be connected? I tied into the vacuum line from the engine that connects to the vacuum tank (hidden inside of the console). The gauge needle seems to just peg out on the left side of the gauge after staring the engine. I don't see any fluctuation of the needle when driving. It slowly returns to the right after the engine is turned off. Any suggestions. Thanks.
