AW70 swap; bellhousing exchange ?? 200

I went to the local pick and pull today and got an AW70 for my current project car; an 88 240DL.

The donor car was a 91 240 so the bellhousing has the opening for the crank position sensor.

My plan was to swap the bell housing from the old transmission to the new one to eliminate the unused opening on the 88.

I have removed the necessary bolts but even using a brass hammer has only resulted in about 1/8" of movement in trying to remove the bellhousing from the 91 transmission.

It would seem easier to simply put some sort of permanent cover over the sensor opening; a piece of aluminum sheet cut and formed to fit, held in place with screws??

Has anyone done a successful swap of the bellhousings on an AW70??

Randy
