No, they won't leave any rubber when ABS is working right. They hold right up to the point of impending lockup, and then release brake pressure.

Proper braking technique for ABS cars in panic stops, is, full brake pressure on the pedal. Do not attempt to modulate. Just foot to the floor- the ABS control unit chugs and grinds and does all the hard work.

I've had it kick in twice recently, going downhill in the rain, and had a car pull out in front of me. Another time, a light turned very suddenly on slick roads. It's an odd sensation and makes me back off, but it works flawlessly.

Hope your 965 was not too badly damaged??
