A very important question 200 1987

Hey guys,
I have a very important question to ask in which I will greatly appreciate any answers from the bottom of my heart. To say the least and make it very brief and concise, living down here in Florida with my father and his wife has not panned out well AT ALL and it looks like I'm going to have to move back to Rhode Island. As most of you guys know, I have had overdrive problems with my car, leaving with me with a whopping $366 to get back from Hudson, Florida, to East Greenwich, Rhode Island, which is 1307 miles. And I have to move back up to Rhode Island and there's no going back from my decision in doing so. I was crunching some numbers, and I figured your average 240 gets about 24 miles to the gallon highway, so I'll cut that in half since the RPMs are so high, which should cost me about $250 in gas. Does that sound about right? And I'm just so damned paranoid of driving this car that kind of distance even though the previous owner told me she drove the car 300 miles daily. I know the belts are going to need to be changed soon, as the belts squeak and such. But honestly, I am digging my own grave driving this car w/o O.D. that long from FL to RI without overdrive? I would GREATLY appreciate any insight from the bottom of my heart!!!
