Trying to ressurect a 240- HELP?!! 200

Recently, I was given a 1985 244 (B230F, LH Jetronic 2.2, auto.transmision), which I'm trying to ressurect. Reportedly, it was running (poorly) when parked about 4-5 years ago. The engine turns over but won't fire. Seems like a compound ignition/fuel problem-- the best kind! Once I can get it to start up and keep running it should be a decent vehicle- The engine has about 170K miles and compression checked out good so I know it's got some life left in it. Also worth mentioning is that it fired up a few times after I completed the initial fuel system rehabs stated below. The longest it ran was about 8-10 seconds before stalling. Since then it has not started. I found the Volvo green books, but after completing all the tests in the fault tracing procedures I've not come to any conclusion. These are the steps I've taken so far:

Went thru fuel system, drained fuel tank, replaced the in-tank pump and filter, new in-line filter and hose, checked the in-line pump to make sure it is running (had to tap it with a wrench to wake it up, but runs fine when tested).

New Battery obviously

Replaced Air Mass Meter, old one was definitely bad- I could see broken sensor wires inside.

New flame trap hose kit. Checked all air intake hoses/system- no leaks

New dist. cap and HT lead. Rotor looks brand new.

Verified spark at plugs ***but*** there's spark at each plug for about the first 2 or 3 revolutions, after which there is no spark anywhere. This is repeatable; something is shutting down the ignition after a few seconds of cranking. Anybody experienced this before? Is the ignition control module at causing this possibly? Apparently the owner had replaced it not long before storing the car, so I haven't tried to find a new one, although I swapped out a spare one I believe from an '86, not the exact same part # but it didn't start with that anyway.

Performed fuel injection system diagnostic checks in Volvo green book. Everything checked okay: relay is working, resistance was good on injectors, temperature sensor, air mass meter, and the current supply and ground checks were ok: the only conclusion was to replace the Jetronic control unit which I did. (see below)

Fuel Pump relay is good and both fuel pumps work fine: there is a test you can perform to short the pump relay through the wiring harness to the Jetronic unit, and the fuel pumps immediately turn on and sound strong every time. So Why are the pumps not turning on when the ignition switch is engaged?

I thought the Jetronic control unit was faulty, so I found one on ebay, and that didn't change anything. (I guess it is possible that the control unit was bad, since it is a USED one, however it was reported to have been pulled from a working vehicle.) I have also checked and cleaned all the ground connections to the fuel system.

Could it possibly be a faulty ignition switch? Or maybe the ignition control unit is bad? Does anyone know if the symptom could be caused by a faulty sensor (temperature, knock, Lambda-sond etc)? Could the Hall pick-up sensor in the distributor have something to do with the problem? Should I try another Jetronic control unit? I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ryan
