Brake light bulb keeps blowing 700 1990

Hi Guys
I could not find anything about this in the FAQs so here's hoping you can help.
I have an estate (station wagon) and the left brake light keeps blosing one of the two filaments. I replace it, works fine for a few brakings and then blows the filament in the bulb again.
It has one of those bayonet type connectors that the bulb fits into and then you slot the whole thing into the lamp housing. Any ideas?

I did notice on the other side the previous owner removed the wires from the lamp housing and fixed the wires directly to the bayonet-type connector using electrical connections. I wonder if there is a problem with the pressure fixings that keep shorting or something?

Thanks in advance.
Peter
