This is what my 89 760 started doing and then stopped - seemed OK. Then a few weeks back the OD would not engage. I could get the light to come on and off - but she would not engage into OD until I had driven about 7 miles. Then she stopped altogether.
To shorten the story - the connector at the back of the linkage under the car was not making good contact. I replaced the relay and the OD solenoid B4 I figured it out.
