hullo, looking for info on a new old volvo 200 1991

Hi, I am Rod. Our family managed to purchase 2 Volvos in one day! A 1991 240 auto wagon (168k miles) and a 2002 S60 awd.

I bought the 240 from an acquitance. The idea is for me to sort it out and then hand it off to our 19yr old son (still to get his license) next spring when he returns from college.

All this has happened rather quickly and I now need to turn this 240 into my daily driver. It has required new exhaust pipe pieces (down + axle pipes) and the tailgate wiring harness for inspection. Soon it will need brakes and bushings (the ride/handling resembles a bean bag).

My immediate concern is if you were to travel approx. 100 miles a day commuting what would you carry and what would you watch for in the early days?

We had a 740 wagon which our family loved (it sadly was totaled on ice). I remember this listserv from those days and am now giving thought to getting another 240 wagon for myself or something elde for my son...
