Volvo 745 turbo with M-46 misfires at 1500-2000 rpm 700 1990

A friend of mine has a Volvo 745 1990 turbo with M-46.

At idle the engine seem to run well and even. When he accelerate there is some
misfires like if it were not getting enough gas. The in-tank and main pumps are
running 3 seconds when the contact key is turned on. The gas tank is 2/3 full.

This problem appeared suddently and is constant now.

Is it possible the fuel pressure regulator is defective? Or how else could I help
him diagnose the problem?

He is young and has litte money to pour to a Volvo dealer. This big car is his
delivery vehicle for prepared food.

Thanks for any help.
