Question about an engine or tranny leak? 200 1992

I just bought a 1992 245 w/ 159,000 miles on it. I noticed yesterday a slight leak (8-10 drops per day) of what looks to be motor oil dripping from the rear transmission brace. I haven't yet crawled up under the car to get a closer look, but I was wondering if any of you could tip me off as to what it could be. It is so far back from the engine, I was wondering if it could be just really gunked up tranny fluid. The drips are almost totally black and I can't see any reddish color in them, and they don't have that tranny fluid smell.

I was thinking that it could be oil from the rear main oil seal that blew back onto the crossmember, but I am not real sure. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks - Marcus
