Volvo A/C Retrofit Kit Question 200 1986

I recently purchased the Genuine Volvo A/C Retrofit Conversion Kit (R12 to R134a) for my 1986 240DL, and have a question regarding the new evaporator provided with the kit. The evaporator has black butyl tape on both sides of the cooling fins covering the bottom portion of the unit (roughly bottom 2" of each side) and tape on the bottom (2 narrow strips). Should I remove this tape prior to installation or does it get installed with the evaporator? I'm concerned about restricting air flow across the unit. The Volvo instructions available on Dave Shannon's web page do not address this issue. Any help from others who installed this kit would be appreciated. Thanks.
