Help -- My Ceiling Upholstery is Falling... 700

Here goes. My 9 year old put one whole in the ceiling upholstery, and it has spread. Now, the fabric is hanging down. What's the best and least expensive way to repair. It's an 1987. I went to a fabric store, and thought of gluing some material, but didn't want to make a mess of an already messy problem. Need to do something about it fast as my 10 month old baby has discovered it, and is reaching up to try to pull it down even further. Thanks for your help.
