U-joint question 444-544

Tony. Tools needed: A bench vice, socket, hammer and drift. You will use the bench vise along with a socket to press out the bearings. The hammer and drift to seat the new bearings. It's difficult to explain step-by-step how I did it. I tried to follow the step-by-step procedure in my Volvo manual, however, the procedure was so confusing I had to put the manual away and work with it until I took the joint apart. A little mechanical know-how is definitely required. It's one of those things that you just have to work with. It doesn't cost much if you take it to a driveshaft shop. They will have it out in no time. Did you check out the speedibleed web site? Since you've got your PV apart at the moment, it might be a good idea to replace the bleed valves on the wheel cylinders with longer ones. The original ones, at least on my PV, were too short, consequently it was a bit difficult getting a wrench over the fitting because they sat so low between the two securing bolts for the wheel cylinder. Use a box-end wrench. An open end wrench might round out the fitting making it impossible to open, that would be the beginning of a very bad day.
