740 E-test 700

Good Evening Folks;
My 92 740 (8 valve no turbo) failed its Ontario (Canada) E-test today. It was perfect everywhere except for excessive NOX on the driving test cycle. The pamphlet the test centre gave me says that it could be the EGR, the catalytic converter or a lean air/fuel ratio. So, where do I start? I will pull the codes from the OBD diagnostics over the weekend and I suppose at 170,000 miles (270,000 kms) it would not hurt to change the O2 sensor. I have just bought the car in North Carolina so I don't know its history. I have already changed the filters, the sparkplugs, the distributor cap\rotor and the timing belt.

Best Regards;
