Front end noise 40-80km/hr 200

Is there any way of checking the front bearings for wear. Are they easy to replace or just repack them. I seem to have a deep whirring noise from the front end. It sounds like I have truck tires on the car. I jacked up the car and checked both front wheels. They have they same noise on both sides when rotating them by hand. It sounds a bit like metal on metal. I figured if it was a brake caliper dragging one would be worse than the other. Do they normally make a bit of noise when rotating by hand? It could also be my tires but its really hard to tell. If I drive with my head out the window listening I don't hear it as much. There is no dragging noise when comming to a stop or driving away (I had that when my rear caliper was dragging). If I drive about 60 then apply the brakes lightly to slow down the noise sounds the same. If I brake harder making the nose dive down a bit th noise goes away slightly. I should also mention I have the slotted ATE rotors on the car.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Chris.
