headlights that won't stay on 200

I have a '93 240 and recently have had trouble with the headlights. For awhile they would, at random times, just shut off. Then when I would hit a bump or do something to jar the lights, and they would come back on. I'm wondering if it might be a connection problem, but as I know little about these types of electrical issues, I'm hoping that someone can help me. For now I can hold on the high beams when driving at night, but I'm sure that's as annoying for other drivers as it is for me. What might cause this inconsistency and what can be done to fix it? Thanks in advance for your help.
