52mm VDO Tach not working 200 1982

I purchased a 52mm VDO Tachometer(off ebay)two weeks ago and installed it with no problem. Everything worked. This morning, the tach suddenly stopped working. I checked all my connections and eventually removed the tach and took it directly to the coil. The tach still didn't work which leaves me to believe that the tach is at fault. Am I out of luck, or is there a common repair for these tachs? TIA
