1991 940 Timing Question 900

Hi all,
Everywhere I've read it says the timing isn't adjustable on a 940. Can someone clue me in on this subject. Reason I'm asking is while I was out of country SWMBO took my car to a mechanic who said he adjusted the timing since it was wrong. Ever since I have a small miss and a little rough running I can't clear up. I did have a bad AMM, ignition module which were causing a problem but it didn't do this before he worked on it. So can the timing be adjusted? I loosened the 2 10mm bolts and turned the distributor but it doesn't change the way it runs compared to doing it to a typical car. So what is the scoop on timing? I don't have a timing light and don't want to waste my money buying one if it's pointless.

Thanks,
Andy
