One reason I'd like the short shifter is because the short seems to have very nice tight shifting. the long shifter on the M41 feels all over the place.
It's the so-called "engine wobble indicator"
I liked that prospect as well - nice tight swifting closer at hand
You want to find a cover where the bronze bushing isn't all spooged out, elongated slots, or get one of your worn ones reworked. Then shifting with the long stick is quite enjoyable.
I actually went so far as to buy a new factory 140 tunnel adapter for an M41 short shift, marked it out on my tunnel and was ready to install it. I didn't want to give up the heat bladder. I fantasized trying to either rework the bladder (fill it with sand, heat 'er up and rehape it), or somehow fabricate one as low profile and elegant as the existing one to work with the short shifter, but life is short and there are many other things to do first. Maybe after I move to warmer climate.
As more and more of us who live in cold climates retrofit overdrives into 122 sedans and wagons, (I know, this situation is probably going to ger better not worse, read: global warming) one of the clever people on this board will come up with a manufactured, molded heat bladder for a short shift setup. You read it here first!
