Thermostat check 200 1989

Hi all,

Just curious, how does one go about inspecting the thermostat switch that controls whether the air coming into the intake is being routed past the exhaust manifold? That aluminum hose on my 244 rusted away recently and I don't know if replacing it will fry my AMM. Thanks.
