You could probably cut it where it goes around the shifter and find
some kind of tube to run from there back. It is a blow-molded part so
it will not take kindly to re-shaping. BTW I heard on "Wait-Wait, Don't
Tell Me" last Saturday that Duct tape is not very good for heater ducts
because the adhesive gets weak when it gets warm. Matches my experience.
When I got a new heating system a couple weex ago they used an aluminum
tape with thermoset adhesive.
