How to access wiring inside pillar between front and rear doors? 200 1993

I've been tracking down the cause of inoperative door switched interior lights on our '93 245. Several of the door switches were not working correctly, so I purchased four replacements and am installing them. In doing so I discovered that the wiring for the right rear switch had broken off inside the pillar at the point where it was crimped to the spade connector. Looking into the little hole with a flashlight and poking around I cannot see the rest of the wire.

How do I get in there? Do I need to somehow remove the plastic panel which covers the inside of the post, and if I do figure out how to remove that panel will I see anything other than more metal?

TIA for any help!

John
