looping the rack 200 1979

Has anyone here ever looped their power steering rack to run it as a manual? is it as simple as connecting the two hoses that come out of the steering rack? does fluid need to be in there? thinking about ripping out the power steering of my 242 and dont want to convert to a manual rack. ive read elsewhere that the manual rack is actually slower, 4.5 lock-to-lock?, than the power, 3.5 lock-to-lock. also dont really want to go thru effort of removing the rack, or expense of buying a manual. anyone know of a 2.5 lock-to-lock rack for 240's? now im starting to stretch a bit.... trying to make more work for myself.... anyway, any shared experiences with steering racks is much appreciated!
