All the lights on the dash go in and out 900

I have a 95 960 with a 128K miles with a strange problem. It occurs mostly when the car is cold and during the first 30 minutes of driving. All the lights on the dash just go out. This includes the instrument panel the lights on the radio and the climate control unit. Basically every light on the dash goes out. The strange part is if I press hard on the wood grain on the dashboard all the lights come back on but if I take my hand off the lights go off again. I am hoping someone else has had and resolved this problem.
Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated as the local dealer is stumped.
