Tailgate gasket material 140-160 1970

The door and tailgate seals were made of a different compound on 140s and 240s. The 140 ones are inferior, perhaps made of a latex based material, as are those of all earlier models. They get hard and start to crumble with age. 240 ones are a direct fit, and are much more durable. They are made of a good quality synthetic rubber. The 140 gaskets are a solid strip that relies on the compressibility of the rubber itself to provide the seal. The 240 ones are tubular in section.
