No start problem(s) 200 1989

I wouldn;t resort to 'slamming' things ...

Anyhow the relay accounts for the majority of intermittent start conditions.
If you can solder, take it out and resolder the PCB. If not, replace it.

If that does not work, try the crank position sensor... but take the necessary precautions. See my website below for some info on both of these.
