92 960 random no start?? 900 1992

i have a 92 960 that has been having some random no start problems. sometimes ill get in it and it will start right away with no problem. other times i will have to crank it over for a few minutes to get it to start. when i crank it over constantly for awhile, sometimes it will "catch" or something and almost start, and then usually after a few more seconds it will start, but not always. it sems to be pretty random as far as hot or cold motor. any suggestions on what to check? i have worked on this car more times than idlike to admit and think i know the motor pretty well, but this one is causing me some problems. any help would be much appreciated!
