Damage Engine(Head Gasket)? 900 1992

Last night the neck on radiator broke off and dumped all anti freeze. I drove about 4 miles before I notice there was a problem and car was over heating.

I pulled over. Reconnected hose to remaining neck. Filled with antifreeze, drove back home no problems with over heating.

Question. The fact that it was cold last night does it make less proability that I caused damage to head gasket? When I filled with antifreeze the car worked fine all the way home.

If I caused engine damage would I see it right away and/or how long before I will start seeing problem with engine?

If I get through this one I will definitely invest in an idiot light!
