Rear axle compatability 200 1989

First; thanks for all the advice on my last post. We depend on this car during the winter frequently commuting between Rochester,NY and Philadelphia,PA.
After weighing the pros and cons on rebuilding vs replacing, finding a good used one might be the viable choice.
My local mechanic estimated the cost of rebuilding the rear axle on my 89 240 wagon at $650. Since I have dealt with him for almost 20yrs,I trust this is a fair estimate. Unfortunatly I did'nt ask the price of installing a used one.
Since I live in the upstate NY snowbelt, cars desolve usually before they mechanicaly die, so finding a good used one, preferably a limited slip differential from a 93 240 should be relatively easy. The question is are these differentials compatible with the 89 240 or are there issues with brakes,mounts bushings ets.
If they are compatible how do you distinguish between a limited slip and regular differential?
If they are not compatible, what years should I be considering?
