1989 Alternator Question 200

OK, So I've been playing around with my 240 alot lately trying to get it in tip top shape. Anyway, I have a little battery tester that lights up and tells you if your batt is good. If you connect it when the car is running, it will also tell you if the ALT is good.
Well, my battery is good, but its reading that my ALT is "poor" charging.
I have never had any problems at all with starting or driving. The car sits alot too and always starts.
So here is my question.....What is the amperage output of the stock Alternator? And what happens if I upgrade to one that puts out more AMPS?
I have a chance to grab a 100 Amp one. So I was just wondering.
Thanks for the responses.
