740T Rear Transmission Output Shaft Play

My 1988 740T rear Trans output shaft has about 1/8" side play. I would assume like most trans this should be a very mininal amount of play. Is this a matter of just replacing the rear output shaft bearing or do you need to get deeper into the trans? If its just this bearing seems like might be able to install with trans in car
