Hello. '86 DL sedan. Passenger side steering gear boot is ripped open. After marking where the tie rod meets the tie rod end(so as I hopefully match it when I re-assemble) is it then just a matter of unscrewing tie rod off of tie rod end and then replacing(& Regreasing)the boot & clamps ? Dumb Question : Does Tie Rod Rotate /Loosen off of the tie rod end ? Or do I have to take apart or take off the tie rod end to do this job ? If I recall they used to make boots that were split down middle and then snapped together. Are these still available and if so where ? Local parts places had no idea what I was talking about. If I could get such a split boot then this would be a much much easier job. Thanks in advance your for help & advice.
